Nick Perry of the SF Planning Dept. and Dustin White of MTA were at the meeting to discuss the status of the project. As you may already know, Castro Street sidewalks will expand from the current width of 12' to +/- 22' - from Market to 19th Streets. This will allow for more cafe tables and less congestion. Results from a recent study show that Castro Street is 3rd in SF in pedestrian traffic after the financial district and Fisherman's Wharf. There have been 2 open neighborhood gatherings to discuss the project and get input/feedback from residents and businesses. The 3rd and final one will be on Tuesday May 14th, most likely from 7-9PM, and most likely at the Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy on 19th and Collingwood. The groundbreaking may be as early as late fall 2013.
